What AL means to Kelly:

In high school, I was the only Hispanic in my grade. I often felt a void  when I was at school because sometimes people did not understand me or some of my values and traditions.

I thought that BU would be the same as my high school; the thing I didn’t realize is that I couldn’t go home on the weekends and hang out with my Latino friends. The first couple of weeks were really hard for me at BU and I wanted to leave.

AL has not only helped me embrace my culture but gave me friends that understand me, hold similar values and can just dance with me. I’ve slowly begun to realize even more that I love being a Latina.

AL has helped me feel like I do belong here at BU.
